addict?

June 11th, 2008 by pww

This morning I was cleaning my coffee hand-grinder as I waited for my coffee to release its full potential in the french press. Suddenly, as if awakening from a sleepy stupor when one takes that first sip of caffeinated goodness, I realized that I have five different containers of coffee beans that are currently in use, and about two additional kilograms are sitting in my freezer to buffer the effects of the inevitable: when my coffee supply runs low. On the counter sat a dark-roasted blend of Tanzanian coffee that I had found on my last trip to Zanzibar. What I was actually brewing this morning were Sidamo beans that I came upon last week in Ethiopia. I couldn’t help but wonder, “Am I an addict?” Ha. I think the answer is “No,” though, I would avoid saying that emphatically. I simply enjoy a good cup of coffee, whole-heartedly.

I wonder, can they brew a decent cup of coffee in Rome?

Makes me want to visit the local coffee roasting shop and see if they have those beans. Sam Foster would like this post. He roasts his own beans. Link him on facebook? My palm limits my options or I’d do the honors.

If you were drinking coffee in this coffee shop across the table from me right now, I’d tell you that because of you, I cannot begin a sentence with the word “the” without being really intentional about it. And then I’d feel really guilty about not being creative enough to start it with something different. I wish that I had the same intentions with sentences that began with “and” and “I.”

One way to find out whether you’re addicted would be to stop drinking the stuff for a day and see whether withdrawal sets in. :)

  6. Over the years the word addict has got a bad wrap, being associated with words such as junkie and fiend. I choose to call myself a coffee enthusiast. Ya, a follower of good beans. Those beans: so pretty & shiny and smell so nice (my preciouses). But t Says:

(contd- part 2) to use the word addict seems socially frowned upon these days. People seem to more comfortable with phrases like ‘A fan of coffee’. In your case you may fit into the ‘followers of a good bean club’ not to be confused with caa (caffeine addicts annonomous). If your still left wondering “how addicted am I?” click here for more helpful resources…
