into the sudan

October 27th, 2007 by pww

It is unlikely that I’ll be updating this for the next week. Tomorrow I’m flying into South Sudan to spend a week traveling to a couple different locations. I should be back by the weekend. Verémos, pues!

tuna for puma

October 26th, 2007 by pww

I just saw a guy wearing a shirt with a twist on puma’s logo…it was a tuna. Unfortunately, I was not quick enough on my phone-camera. I googled it. This is what it looks like. Funny. I especially like the question mark for the registered trademark symbol. Have you seen any good logo substitutions lately?

photo album nouveau!

October 25th, 2007 by pww

I’ve finally managed to figure out how to put a photo album on my site! Simply go to the ‘foto’ page on the right, and follow the link. At the moment, there’s only a few pictures from an afternoon I spent in Trafalgar Square, but more should come as I have time (which hasn’t been too plentiful as of late). I’ll be trying to “accessorize” the photo album to increase its function and form as well.

mount kenya | 90 days and counting

October 24th, 2007 by pww

http://www.bergbote.deOn 24 January 2007, 90 days from today, two boys from the Bolivian bush (namely my brother Davíd and myself) will set out to attempt a technical ascent of Mount Kenya, the 2nd highest peak on the African continent. Straddling the equator, she towers above the Central Kenyan highlands. The summit is actually a double peak, Batian (5,199m/17,057ft) and Nelion (5,188m/17,021ft), divided by a narrow gap called the Gate of the Mists.

Davíd is scheduled to fly into Nairobi on his birthday, 23 January, and then we will head to the mountain!

At this point we have begun physical training, researching and planning. Going over climbing route possibilities, sorting through rock and ice gear, studying the pictures and journals of previous climbers and their ascents, etc., is definitely building our excitement. We both agree that planning a mini-expedition like this is quite intoxicating!

The countdown has begun! (see timer in sidebar)

design & usability

October 23rd, 2007 by pww

just a little update on my site…

one - i’ve just added the ability for me to send short updates here from my phone. it was originally putting them as full-on posts in the blogroll, but since each one is limited to 140 characters, i figured they are short enough to put in my sidebar instead. so the five most recent will sit atop the sidebar. the name is kinda funny…tweets. the application that allows me to post via text messages is called twitter…and the “posts” that land on my sidebar are consequently called tweets. funny name, huh.

two - my blog is now compatible with phone browsers. now all you blackberry-toting peeps out there can bookmark this site on your phone and browse at will, no longer having to worry about formatting…it will automatically kick in.

three - i’m working on putting a photo album on here…when i have some time. so at present that fotos link leads nowhere exciting.

visa granted, in-hand!

October 19th, 2007 by pww

flag of indiaI have something in my passport that has been a source of difficulty for me…a visa and a few stamps from Pakistan. At least in part, this has resulted in two separate denials for an entry visa into India (the relations between these two countries is usually less than favorable). Last week I went to the High Commission of India here in Nairobi. After submitting my application, I had to wait for six days. Yesterday I was notified that I had been approved. Today I picked it up! So it looks like India for Christmas!
